Denise Lieberman
Director & General Counsel
Denise Lieberman is a nationally recognized voting rights expert and movement lawyer. In addition to coordinating the Missouri Voter Protection Coalition since 2006, Denise spent nearly 15 years in the national voting rights arena, most recently as Director of Power & Democracy at Advancement Project National Office in Washington DC, where she oversaw a $3.2 million program budget for the organization’s voting rights work at the national level and in multiple states. Now back in Missouri full-time, Denise is also Faculty Director of the Voter Access and Engagement Initiative at Washington University in St. Louis, where she is an adjunct professor of political science and law. She also serves as a consultant to the Brennan Center for Justice.
A renowned constitutional and civil rights lawyer for 25 years, Lieberman, who also has a degree in communications and journalism, has been at the forefront of voting rights debates in her home state of Missouri and across the country, presenting testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives in support of the Voting Rights Advancement Act, and serving as attorney of record in some of the nation’s most high profile and impactful voting rights cases over the last decade.
